Soumaya Moussa, BA, MA, PhD

Senior Researcher

Soumaya obtained a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the École polytechnique de l'Université de Montréal.

Soumaya was a methodologist at Statistics Canada from 2006 to 2017. Her experience in survey methodology is extensive, as she has had the opportunity to work in data processing for large-scale surveys, including the Survey of Labour and Income Dynamics and the Unified Business Survey. Her work consisted in producing the quality indicator tables for several surveys, and responding to special requests from clients according to their needs. she also made a major contribution to evaluation studies for the Integrated Business Statistics Program, comparing several estimation method scenarios.

Soumaya has also enriched my experience at Data Analysis Resource Center at Statistics Canada (DARC). Her work consisted of providing advice and support on methods for the statistical analysis of survey data, as well as on the use of software for her fellow survey methodologists. Also, her expertise in data analysis was recognized by Methodology Learning Committee, as she was part of the team offering the Survey Data Analysis course in French. She contributed to the 2016 census by evaluating the electronic questionnaire and also evaluating disclosure protection methods used by Statistics Canada with regard to the dissemination of income variables (person and household).

Soumaya worked at Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) as Senior Analyst responsible for the mobilization of administrative data project. Soumaya has produced reliable statistical indicators. The project encompasses the production of a metadata framework and also the production of the accompanying quality indicators. A second project to which Soumaya has contributed was the implementation of an administrative data analytical laboratory.

Soumaya worked at Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation as a specialist in the estimation for two surveys: condo apartment survey and Seniors' Housing Survey, for Canada and all provinces.
